Cora M. Tellez, Chief Executive Officer
A co-founder of Sterling HSA, Cora serves as company CEO. She has 25 years of management experience in health care finance and delivery. Prior to founding Sterling HSA, Tellez was President of the health plans division of Health Net, Inc., an insurance provider that operated in seven states and achieved revenue of $8 billion from health plans. She has also served as President of Prudential's western health care operations; CEO of Blue Shield of California, Bay Region; and Regional Manager for Kaiser Permanente of Hawaii.
Chris Bettner, Executive Vice President of Business Development
With over 19 years of experience in health care sales and management with health insurance carriers, Chris serves Sterling HSA as Executive Vice President of Business Development. Prior to joining the company, Chris was Vice President of Sales for Blue Shield of California. She held similar positions at Lifeguard, FHP, Independence Blue Cross and MetLife.
Bill Rose, Finance
Bill has thirty-five years experience in financial management, principally with health care companies. He served in executive financial positions with Kaiser Permanente in California, Colorado and Oregon. His distinguished career includes serving as the top financial officer for Kaiser’s Northern California Region with revenues in excess of $10 billion.
Nancy Brumfield, Chief Marketing Officer
With almost 30 years of marketing experience in a variety of industries and companies, Nancy has expertise in all facets of consumer and business marketing. She has contributed to the development and growth of small start-up companies and large corporations, including Charles Schwab, the American Heart Association, McCaw Cellular Communications/AT&T Wireless Services, and Sterling HSA. Nancy has been with Sterling HSA since its inception. Prior to joining Sterling, Nancy founded and managed a marketing consulting business where she provided strategic and tactical marketing program design, development and launch management services for clients including Microsoft, Western Wireless, and Extend America (a Nextel alliance).
Michael Eagan, Chief Technology Officer
Michael has been with Sterling HSA since it’s inception in February of 2004. Michael brings over a decade of experience in enterprise software design, development, and implementation to the technical team. Prior to Sterling, Michael served as the Director of Engineering at HealthNet of California in the New Ventures Group, a specialized division of HealthNet focused on developing tools based on new technologies to streamline health care processes for health plan members, physicians, hospitals and employers. Michael received his Bachelor of Arts in Cognitive Science with an emphasis in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.
Darrell Perkins, Senior Director of Sales, Northern California
Darrell brings years of successful insurance industry sales experience to Sterling HSA. Prior to joining the company, Darrell was an Account Director with Colonial Life & Accident Insurance where he created cost-saving benefit strategies for his clients nationwide. While with Colonial, Darrell was honored with numerous sales awards, including the Northern California Rookie of the Year for highest sales.
Marina Weiss, Director of Sales
Marina Weiss is the Director of Sales for the Sterling HSA Eastern Region office. She is responsible for acquiring new customers and managing client relationships in the Eastern U.S. as our operations continue to grow beyond California and the West Coast. Marina is a graduate of Rutgers Law School and has experience working for firms that specialize in federal regulatory matters throughout the country.
Morgan Anthony, Director of Sales
Morgan Anthony is the Director, Sales for Sterling HSA, serving our many clients in the Southern California region. She graduated with honors from California State Long Beach with a degree in Political Science. Morgan's interest in the health care industry stems from her parents long history in the business. Morgan's father has been Regional Sales Director for Blue Cross of California since 1988 and her mother is the owner of a successful Insurance agency. Morgan's most recent experience was in the food and beverage industry where she served in management and consulting positions. Among her accomplishments, she collaborated to design and build a successful restaurant in Santa Monica, CA. Morgan has been very active in volunteer activities as well. She served as Youth Commission Co-Chair for the Redondo Beach City Council for two years. Her efforts rendered new programs regarding elementary grade education and tutoring. The program Morgan developed "Beach Cities Child Development" is still helping students today.
Sunceray "Sunny" Chamblee, Director of Sales
Sunceray Chamblee, known as Sunny, is Director of Sales in the Sterling HSA Western Region office. She is responsible for acquiring new customers and managing client relationships in San Diego, Orange County and the Inland Empire counties. Prior to joining Sterling, Sunny was an account executive in the mortgage industry working with lenders and brokers in the wholesale market. Sunny is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine where she received two B.A. degrees in Sociology and Social Ecology. During college she was captain and a key player of the Division One Women's Water Polo Team.
Lee Nichols, Director of Sales
Lee Nichols is the Sales Director for Sterling HSA representing the North Bay, San Francisco and the East Bay. She brings to Sterling over 15 years of sales experience with a number of industries where her direct relationships with clients helped them achieve their goals. While with Colonial, she served as an independent insurance agent and benefits consultant for several years. Among Lee’s many valuable skills are excellent communications, trouble shooting, follow through, and patience, all attributes important to the service of our clients.
Craig Lewis, Director of Existing Accounts
A seasoned healthcare management executive with 21 years of industry experience, Craig’s role with Sterling HSA as Director of Existing Accounts focuses his talents on the growth and management of existing business. His goal is to make sure the brokers and plan administrators who work with Sterling are being well served.
Prior to joining Sterling, Craig was Director of Actuarial Services for Blue Shield of California’s Large Group Commercial Sector Division. He managed profit & loss results for 1.3 million members and was accountable for revenues in excess of $2.9 billion. Prior to Blue shield, Craig was Director of Actuarial Services at Kaiser Permanente, working to update the pricing and underwriting practices. He has also served in a dual capacity at Aetna as both the Southern California Financial Team Leader and lead actuary responsible for pricing in the Western Region.
Craig received his B.B.A. degree in actuarial science from University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Lola Christensen, Reimbursement Services
Lola brings great skills and depth to customer service at Sterling HSA. She managed membership accounting departments such as operations, Medicare, small group billing and trust funds for organizations in the health care industry for many years of her career. Lola was also manager of business offices for Kaiser Hospitals in Northern California and Senior Business Consultant for the Kaiser Health Plan IT department.
Duarte Batista , Customer Service
Duarte Batista has over 20 years of experience covering many facets of the insurance industry. Before joining Sterling HSA to lead customer service operations, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Secretary-Treasurer for the Fraternal Benefit Society, a California based organization with over 12,000 members holding life insurance and annuity products.

Joan Haratani
Joan is a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius. She has an extensive trial and pre-trial practice ranging from products liability to securities fraud. Prior to joining Morgan Lewis & Bockius n 2005, Joan was Partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon; and Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May. Currently, Joan is President of the Board of the Bar Association of San Francisco. She has received numerous awards for both her practice accomplishments and service on behalf of minority practitioners.
Wayne Moon
Another key Advisory Board Member, Wayne has over 40 years of experience in the health care industry. He currently serves as Chairman of RelayHealth Corporation and was Chairman and CEO of Blue Shield of California for seven years. Prior to Blue Shield, Wayne was President, COO and a Director of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals. He has also served in administrative roles with hospitals in Connecticut, Iowa and West Virginia.
